Teacher Spotlight: Keri Mcleod
What is your favorite thing about the CFYC community?
I love the family focus and friendly smiling faces.
Why do you practice yoga?
I enjoy the balance yoga brings to my life. I love how yoga challenges my body and has transformed how I choose not to react to my thoughts. The most pure and peaceful moments have happened on my mat. With the help from yoga, I am the best me for myself and others.
Why do you teach yoga?
I love connecting with people. I love to inspire people , because we are in this life together. I believe in the good and greatness within everyone and if I can help that shine in someone else, I have lived this life well.
How would you describe your teaching style? What can students expect from your class?
My teaching style is rooted through inspiration and affirmation. I want students to feel good in their bodies, so I focus on strategic sequencing that will be challenging and move the spine in a comfortable way. Students can expect to use breathing techniques and soft, steady gaze to stay present in the moment. I use cueing and assisting to help students achieve proper alignment and to deepen their postures, shining light on what they are capable of. My class provides an opportunity to be strong in your body and all aspects of life.
What is your advice to people who understand the health benefits of yoga, and would like to start a practice, or practice more often, but have difficulty finding time?
Yoga is about balance. Life is busy but simply doing a few sun salutations, with conscious breathing, and steady focus can be just what you need to balance your life. Make time for yourself a priority; you can’t pour from an empty cup. So do yoga as much as you can!
What are your hobbies or pursuits in addition to yoga?
I run around with two toddler boys; playing dinosaurs, working in sandbox construction sites, moving around trains and anything with wheels, and most importantly, dancing in the kitchen! I also love hiking, eating amazing food, being a nurse, the mountains, world travel, and any adventure or trying something new.
